To ensure the longevity and vibrant appearance of your Fully Sewn Bhutan Flag, please follow these care instructions:

1. Cleaning:
   • Wash Gently: Use a mild detergent to prevent fading and avoid bleach or harsh chemicals.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent snagging.
   • Drying: Air dry by laying the flag flat or hanging it. Avoid tumble drying as the heat can cause shrinkage and damage the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent mildew and degradation.
3. Folding the Bhutan Flag:
   • Lay the flag flat on a clean, dry surface with the front side facing down.
   • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, aligning the edges carefully to ensure a straight fold.
   • Fold the flag in half again lengthwise, bringing the bottom edge up to meet the top edge. Ensure the edges are smooth and aligned.
   • Fold the flag in half widthwise, starting from one end and bringing it towards the centre. Make sure the edges are even and neat.
   • Continue folding the flag into a compact rectangle by folding it into thirds from the bottom up. Smooth out any wrinkles or creases as you fold.
   • Ensure the final folded shape is uniform and compact, with all edges neatly aligned to maintain the flag’s appearance.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp items that could cause snags or tears.
   • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly hoisted and not in contact with the ground.
   • Flag Exposure: Minimise exposure to harsh weather by taking the flag down during extreme conditions or at night.
5. Repairs:
   • Minor Repairs: For any minor wear or fraying, replace the flag temporarily and have it repaired by a professional seamstress.
   • Replacement: As the flag ages, consider replacing it to ensure a vibrant display for future events.

Flying the Bhutan Flag:

• Raising the Flag:
  • Ensure the flagpole is clean and in good condition.
  • Attach the flag securely to the halyard (the rope used to raise and lower the flag).
  • Hoist the flag slowly and smoothly to the top of the pole. Ensure it is fully extended and not tangled.
• Displaying the Flag:
  • Position the flag so it is fully visible and not obstructed by other objects. The white dragon should face away from the hoist side of the flag, meaning the dragon’s head should be towards the bottom fly side of the flag.
  • Ensure the flag is not touching the ground and is displayed in a way that respects its dignity and significance.
  • When displaying multiple flags, position the Bhutan flag in the prominent position, typically to the left of the observer’s view or at the highest point if on a multi-flag pole.
• Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
  • To fly the flag at half-mast, raise the flag to the top of the pole and then lower it halfway down.
  • Ensure the flag is centred at the halfway point of the flagpole.
  • When lowering the flag back to full mast, raise it briefly to the top before lowering it to ensure it is properly repositioned.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
  • Raise the flag at sunrise to the top of the pole.
  • Lower the flag at sunset unless it is illuminated by artificial light. Ensure it is raised promptly at dawn and lowered at dusk to respect the flag's daily display protocols.
• Weather Conditions:
  • Avoid flying the flag during severe weather conditions, such as storms or high winds, to prevent damage.
  • If adverse weather conditions are anticipated, take the flag down to protect it from harm.
• Retirement of the Flag:
  • When the flag becomes worn, faded, or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired respectfully.
  • Follow local guidelines or ceremonial procedures for the respectful disposal of the flag.
