File setup requirements

These are the core requirements for supplied artwork. If your artwork does not meet these specs, additional file preparation may be required before production.

Preferred file formats

  • Print-ready PDF is preferred.
  • AI, EPS, PSD and TIFF may also be accepted.
  • Please embed all images or supply linked image files.

Bleed

  • Artwork must include bleed on all sides.
  • Use the bleed shown on the relevant product template.
  • For general large-format artwork, allow 30mm bleed unless advised otherwise.

Fonts

  • Convert all text to outlines.
  • This prevents font substitution and unexpected text changes.
  • Check spelling and final copy before submitting artwork.

Colour

  • Supply artwork in CMYK or spot colours where applicable.
  • Do not supply final artwork in RGB.
  • Use Pantone Solid Coated references for PMS colours.

Colour matching

  • Supply a colour-accurate proof when colour matching is important.
  • Clearly identify all Pantone colours with correct PMS numbers.
  • For critical colour work, ask us about a press proof.

Specialty inks

  • Contact production before supplying white ink artwork.
  • Specialty print layers may require specific file setup.
  • Do not guess layer names for white ink, cut lines or specialty finishes.

Image resolution guide

Large-format print does not always need to be built at full size. Use the guide below when preparing raster artwork.

Artwork scale Resolution required Best used for
100% finished size 75dpi Full-size large-format artwork
25% finished size 300dpi Quarter-size artwork setup
10% finished size 750dpi One-tenth scale artwork setup
For online design uploads or smaller print files, high-resolution artwork is still important. Logos should ideally be supplied as vector artwork, especially for banners, flags, media walls and large signage.

Dielines and production layers

Dielines, cut paths and specialty finishing instructions must be supplied as separate layers within the file. Use our standard template where required so layer names match our production process.

Evan Evans artwork dieline layer setup example

Standard Illustrator dieline template

Use this template when your artwork requires cutting, routing, kiss cutting or other finishing layers. Keep guide layers separate and do not flatten production layers into the artwork.

When creating your own designs, use separate layers to define different cutting actions such as through cut, kiss cut, crease, drill holes or specialty finishing.

Need help with artwork?

File preparation

If your supplied artwork requires adjustment before production, a file preparation fee may apply. Our team will contact you before proceeding if your file needs significant work.

Graphic design assistance

If you do not have finished artwork, our qualified designers can help create or correct your file. Design and artwork correction is charged at $125 per hour.

Press proofs

For colour-critical projects, we recommend a press proof on the specified material. This helps confirm colour, finish and final print expectations before full production.

Production responsibility

Evan Evans takes care when checking files, but the customer is responsible for the quality and accuracy of supplied artwork, including spelling, image quality and file setup.
