To ensure the longevity and vibrant appearance of the Ecuador flag, follow these care instructions:

1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Wash: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag, preserving its bright colours and fabric. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that may cause fading.
   • Machine Washing: If machine washing is necessary, place the flag in a mesh laundry bag and wash on a delicate cycle with cold water to minimise wear.
   • Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid tumble dryers, as high heat may damage or shrink the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing it to prevent mould or mildew. Store in a cool, dry, and dark location away from direct sunlight.
3. Folding the Ecuador Flag:
   • Lay the Flag Flat: Place the flag face down on a smooth, clean surface, making sure it is completely spread out to prevent any creases.
   • First Lengthwise Fold: Bring the left side of the flag over to meet the right side, carefully aligning the edges. Press along the fold to keep the shape.
   • Second Lengthwise Fold: Fold the flag lengthwise again by bringing the top edge down to meet the bottom edge. Make sure the edges line up precisely, and press the fold to maintain a sharp crease.
   • Form a Triangle: Beginning at the bottom, take the folded corner and fold it diagonally across the flag, forming a triangle. Ensure the triangle's base is aligned with the edge of the flag.
   • Continue the Triangular Folds: Repeat the triangular folding process, working your way up the flag until you reach the top. Each fold should neatly form the next triangle.
   • Secure the Fold: Once at the end, tuck any remaining fabric into the folds to create a neat and compact triangle.
   • Ready for Storage or Display: The flag is now folded and ready for safe storage or display, preserving its form and appearance.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects and rough surfaces to avoid snags and tears.
   • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is securely attached and has room to move freely when displayed.
   • Minimise Exposure: To extend the flag’s life, bring it indoors during extreme weather or at night to avoid prolonged exposure to harsh conditions.
5. Repairs:
   • Minor Repairs: If any fraying or damage is noticed, replace the flag with a spare and have the damaged flag professionally repaired.

Flying the Ecuador Flag:

• Raising the Flag:
  • Before raising, ensure the flag is untangled and free from any hindrances.
  • Check the halyard (the rope for hoisting the flag) to ensure it's in good working condition. Attach the flag securely with clips, and raise it swiftly and respectfully, ensuring it reaches the top of the pole.
  • If your flag has a vertical sleeve, carefully slip the sleeve over the flagpole. Make sure the coat of arms is facing outward for proper display. Once the flag is aligned, ensure it's securely in place, then raise it to the preferred height.
• Proper Display:
  • When flown on a flagpole, the Ecuador Flag should be the highest among other flags unless in a diplomatic context where equal status flags are displayed.
  • Whether displayed vertically or horizontally on a wall, the coat of arms should always be positioned correctly, facing the viewer.
  • Ensure the flag doesn’t touch the ground and is always in a prominent, visible location.
• Flying at Half-Mast:
  • To lower the Ecuador Flag to half-mast, raise it fully to the top before lowering it halfway.
  • When lowering the flag from half-mast, do so slowly and with care. It is typically flown at half-mast during national days of mourning or after the death of notable figures.
