1. Cleaning:

   • Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to protect the flag’s colours. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that could cause fading.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Placing the flag in a mesh laundry bag can help prevent snagging.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to dry naturally. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat may cause shrinkage or damage the fabric.

2. Storage:

   • Proper Storage: Dry the flag completely before putting it away. Store it in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture damage or mildew.

3. Folding the Switzerland Flag:

   • Lay the Flag Flat: Place the flag on a clean, dry surface with the white cross facing upwards. Smooth out any wrinkles to ensure a neat fold.

   • Fold in Half Horizontally: Bring the bottom edge up to meet the top edge, keeping the cross aligned and visible.

   • Fold in Half Vertically: Take the right edge and fold it over to meet the left edge, ensuring the cross remains centred.

   • Continue Folding to a Manageable Size: Depending on storage needs, fold the flag again into a compact square while maintaining the shape of the cross. For ceremonial storage, fold carefully to keep the white cross as visible as possible.

   • Store Properly: Place the folded flag in a protective case or a dry, well-ventilated space to prevent dust or moisture buildup. Avoid placing heavy objects on top of the flag to maintain its crisp folds.

4. Handling:

Flying the Switzerland Flag:

• Raising the Flag:
  • Hoist the flag briskly and with confidence as a sign of respect.
  • Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops to the flagpole rope using the included sister clips, then raise the flag smoothly to the top of the pole.
  • Vertical Sleeve: Slide the flagpole through the sleeve, ensuring a snug fit, and secure it properly before raising the pole to its upright position.
  • When raising multiple flags, the Swiss flag should always be hoisted first and should not be flown lower than any other national flag.
• Displaying the Flag:
  • The Swiss flag, should always be presented flat and without creases when displayed vertically or horizontally.
  • If mounted on a flagpole, ensure it flies freely without obstruction.
  • Indoors, the flag can be hung on a wall with the white cross positioned upright in the centre.
• Flying the Flag at Half-Mast:
  • Lower the flag to half-mast as a mark of mourning or national remembrance.
  • To position the flag at half-mast, first raise it fully to the top of the pole, then lower it to the midpoint.
  • Before lowering the flag at the end of the day, it should first be raised fully before being taken down completely.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
  • The flag should be raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset unless it is illuminated properly for nighttime display.
  • When lowering the flag, do so slowly and respectfully, ensuring it does not touch the ground.
  • If used for an event, the flag should be hoisted before the ceremony begins and taken down after its conclusion.
• Weather Conditions:
  • Avoid flying the flag in extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain, strong winds, or snowstorms, as this can cause unnecessary wear and damage.
  • If the flag becomes wet, fully dry it before storing to prevent mildew or fabric deterioration.
• Retirement of the Flag:
  • A worn-out or damaged Swiss flag should be replaced to maintain its dignified appearance.
