Hanging Banners & Event Flags for Markets & Retail Activations
Melbourne’s iconic Queen Victoria Market is known for its atmosphere, heritage architecture, and ever-changing seasonal activations. For the Autumn Series, Evan Evans was proud to produce a range of custom hanging signage that helped bring the campaign to life throughout the market.
Using a combination of hanging banners and double-sided fabric flags, this project helped create a cohesive seasonal look across the market’s busy interior walkways. The result was colourful, high-impact signage that complemented the historic surroundings while remaining highly visible to shoppers and visitors.
Seasonal Signage for Queen Victoria Market
Queen Victoria Market is one of Melbourne’s best-known public destinations, attracting both locals and tourists year-round. In a venue like this, signage needs to do more than just look good — it needs to be easy to see, work across large open spaces, and contribute to the overall visitor experience.
For the Autumn Series, the signage was positioned overhead throughout the market, helping reinforce the seasonal campaign and create consistency across multiple aisles and shopping zones. Hanging signage is especially effective in high-traffic environments like markets because it makes use of overhead space without interrupting customer flow or stall visibility.
Our Role in the Project
This project was managed by Dan Butler, who coordinated the job from production through to delivery.
Evan Evans was responsible for:
- Printing the banners and flags
- Finishing the signage to specification
- Delivering the completed items ready for installation
Products Produced for the Autumn Series
The project included a mix of large hanging banners and double-sided fabric flags, giving the campaign strong visibility from both long and short viewing distances throughout the market.
- QVM Hanging Banner: 1800mm x 4000mm on trilobal fabric, printed single-sided in CMYK
- QVM Double-Sided Flag: 900mm x 1800mm on 145gsm flag fabric, printed double-sided with the same artwork
This combination worked well across the interior of Queen Victoria Market, helping the Autumn Series branding remain visible from multiple directions and throughout different parts of the venue.
Why Hanging Banners Work So Well in Market Spaces
Markets, retail halls, and public venues often require signage that can be seen above crowds, stalls, and surrounding activity. Hanging banners are an excellent solution because they use vertical space effectively while allowing the floor area to remain open and functional.
They are especially suitable for:
- Seasonal campaigns and retail activations
- Indoor markets and food halls
- Wayfinding and zone identification
- Event branding in large interior spaces
In a venue like Queen Victoria Market, this style of signage helps build atmosphere while also supporting navigation and campaign visibility.
A Strong Seasonal Outcome
The finished Autumn Series installation added colour, energy, and consistency throughout Queen Victoria Market. Repeating the artwork across multiple hanging signs created a strong visual rhythm within the space and helped connect different areas of the market under one seasonal theme.
Projects like this show how effective printed fabric signage can be when used in busy public environments. With the right production, scale, and placement, hanging banners can transform a space and enhance the overall customer experience.
