To help maintain the flag's vibrant colours and overall quality over time, please follow these care instructions:

1. Cleaning:

   • Gentle Washing: Wash the flag using a mild detergent to help preserve the richness of the colours. Avoid using bleach or strong cleaning products that could weaken the fabric or fade the design.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, use a cold gentle cycle. Placing the flag in a mesh laundry bag can help protect it from catching on other items.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it up to dry naturally. Avoid using a tumble dryer, as high temperatures may cause damage or shrinkage.

2. Storage:

   • Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry, and protected space to avoid exposure to moisture and mildew.

3. Folding the NAIDOC Flag:

   • Lay the flag out on a flat surface with the design facing down.
   • Fold the flag in half vertically so the long edges align.
   • Fold it in half vertically once more.
   • Begin folding it into a neat rectangle, working from the fly end toward the header.
   • Smooth out any creases and place the folded flag in a protective storage container or cloth bag.

4. Handling:

   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from rough surfaces or sharp edges to prevent snags or tears.
   • Secure Installation: Fix the flag securely when displayed to reduce the risk of strain or damage from movement.
   • Minimise Exposure: Take the flag down during heavy rain, strong winds, or overnight to help preserve its quality.

5. Repairs:

   • Minor Repairs: For small tears or signs of wear, stop using the flag and have it professionally repaired by a seamstress.
   • Replacement: If the flag becomes too worn or damaged, it’s best to replace it to maintain a respectful and polished appearance.

Flying the NAIDOC Flag:

• Display the flag in a prominent location as a sign of respect and cultural recognition.
• Fly the flag during NAIDOC Week and on other occasions that acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history.
• Raise the flag with care and bring it down before nightfall unless properly illuminated.
• Always fly it in a clean and undamaged condition.

Caring for your flag using these steps helps keep its colours bright and its condition strong over time. It's also a meaningful way to show respect for the pride and heritage it embodies.
