To help maintain the flag’s vibrant colours and long-lasting quality, please follow these recommended care instructions:

1. Cleaning:

   • Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to clean your flag and help preserve its rich colours. Steer clear of bleach and harsh cleaning agents.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, choose a gentle cycle with cold water. Placing the flag in a mesh laundry bag will help protect the fabric from damage.
   • Air Drying: Lay flat or hang the flag to air dry naturally. Avoid using a dryer, as heat may weaken the fibres or distort the shape.

2. Storage:

   • Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before folding and storing. Store it in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.

3. Folding the NAIDOC Flag:

   • Lay the flag flat, ensuring there are no wrinkles.
   • Fold the flag lengthwise in half, keeping the design visible.
   • Fold it in half lengthwise once more.
   • Starting from the end without the header, fold into a neat rectangle or square for easy storage.
   • Keep folded flags in a protective cover or fabric pouch to prevent dust accumulation.

4. Handling:

   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from abrasive surfaces and pointed items to avoid unnecessary damage.
   • Secure Installation: Attach the flag securely when displaying to prevent movement that could cause stress to the fabric.
   • Minimise Exposure: Take the flag down during strong winds, storms, or overnight to prolong its life and appearance.

5. Repairs:

   • Minor Repairs: If there are small rips or fraying, take the flag to a skilled seamstress for patching.
   • Replacement: When signs of wear become prominent, consider replacing the flag to uphold a respectful and presentable display.

Flying the NAIDOC Flag:

• Raise the NAIDOC flag on a separate pole when flown alongside the Australian National Flag.
• When displayed with other flags, position it to the left of the Australian flag from the viewer’s perspective.
• Always fly the NAIDOC flag at full mast, unless instructed otherwise during formal occasions or periods of mourning.
• Ensure the flag is not flown in poor weather conditions to preserve its integrity.

By following these guidelines, your flag will retain its vibrant colours and remain in top condition for many years. Taking care of your flag is not just about preservation but also about honouring the pride and heritage it represents.
