The Significance of ANZAC Day

It is a solemn occasion marked by dawn services, wreath-laying ceremonies, and the presence of the red poppy. More than a historical event, ANZAC Day represents unity, gratitude, and the enduring spirit of those who have protected our freedom.

To maintain the flag’s durability and rich colours, follow these care instructions:

1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag and preserve its rich colours. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals, as they may cause fading.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent damage.
   • Air Drying: Lay flat or hang to air dry. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat can weaken the fabric or cause shrinkage.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: The flag should be completely dry before storing it. Keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture damage or mildew.
3. Folding the ANZAC Flag:
   • Lay the flag flat on a clean surface.
   • Fold it lengthwise in half, keeping the design visible.
   • Fold it again lengthwise, aligning the edges neatly.
   • Starting at one end, fold the flag into a compact rectangle for safe storage or transport.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep away from rough surfaces or sharp edges to prevent snags and tears.
   • Secure Installation: Firmly attach the flag when displayed to prevent strain on the fabric.
   • Minimise Exposure: To prolong its life, bring the flag down during extreme weather conditions or overnight when not in use.
5. Repairs:
   • Minor Repairs: If small tears or fraying occur, consider professional mending to extend the flag’s life.
   • Replacement: When wear and tear become visible, replacing the flag ensures it remains presentable for important commemorations.

Flying the ANZAC Flag:

• Display the flag at half-mast until noon on ANZAC Day as a mark of solemn remembrance.
• After 12:00 pm, raise the flag to full-mast to honour the resilience and spirit of those who served.
• Ensure the flag is well-secured to prevent damage from strong winds.

By following these care instructions, your flag will retain its striking colours and remain in pristine condition for years to come. Proper maintenance is not just about longevity, it’s a mark of respect for the legacy it represents.
