Looking to Buy an Aboriginal Flag?
Whether you're after a high-impact fully sewn version or a durable woven polyester flag for everyday use, we offer two premium options proudly made in Australia:
To maintain the longevity and vibrant look of your product, please adhere to the following care instructions:
Cleaning:
Hand Wash: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag, avoiding bleach or harsh chemicals that can cause fading.
Machine Wash: If machine washing is needed, use a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the product in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from snagging.
Drying: Air dry by laying the fabric flat or hanging it up. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat may cause shrinkage or fabric damage.
Storage:
Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing it. Keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture damage.
Proper Folding:
Begin at the end of the flag opposite the upper left-hand quarter.
Fold one corner into a triangle along the upper edge of the long side.
Fold the triangle forward along its side onto the main body of the flag to create another triangular fold.
Continue folding in this manner until the flag is fully folded.
Alternatively, fold the flag lengthwise twice, bring the ends together, then concertina by folding backwards and forwards towards the hoist edge.
Secure the folded flag by winding the halyard around and under itself.
Handling:
Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the product away from sharp objects and rough surfaces to prevent snags, tears, or abrasions.
Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly mounted and free from obstructions when displayed.
Minimise Exposure: Remove the flag during extreme weather conditions or overnight to prevent unnecessary wear.
Repairs:
Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, replace the flag with a spare and seek professional repairs from a seamstress.
Replacement: When your flag shows significant signs of wear, it’s a good idea to order a new one to ensure you have a fresh and vibrant flag for upcoming events and celebrations.
Flying the Aboriginal Flag:
Flag Position: Ensure the black half is always on top, never fly it upside down.
Respectful Hoisting: Raise the flag briskly and lower it with care. Ensure it never touches the ground, floor, or water.
Time of Day: Fly during daylight, or at night if illuminated. Lower the flag in the evening or during adverse weather conditions.
Multiple Flags: Fly the Aboriginal Flag on a separate pole of equal height to other flags. It should not be placed beneath another flag on the same pole.
Half-Mast Protocol: To fly at half-mast, first raise it to the top, then lower it halfway. Briefly raise it again before lowering completely when taking it down.
Weather Considerations: Protect the flag from extreme weather. If it gets wet, let it dry fully before storing.
Ceremonial Use: Handle the flag with care during events celebrating Aboriginal culture, raising it with reverence and reflection.
Flag Removal and Disposal: When the Aboriginal Flag becomes too worn for display, dispose of it with respect. Consider recycling it or cutting it into unrecognisable pieces before discarding.
By following these care instructions, you’ll help ensure that your Aboriginal flag stays in excellent condition, maintaining its vibrant colours and durability over time. The care you take reflects the respect and value you place on your heritage and identity.
