To maintain the longevity and vibrant appearance of your product, please follow these care instructions:
Cleaning:
Careful Washing: Use mild detergent to minimise fading, and avoid using bleach or similar products to protect your flag's colours.
Machine Wash: If machine washing is required, use a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the product in a mesh laundry bag to avoid snagging.
Drying: Air dry by laying flat or hanging. Do not tumble dry as high heat can shrink and damage the fabric.
Storage:
Safe Storage: Make sure flags are completely dry before storing them in a cool, dry, and secure location.
Folding the Australian Flag:
Lay the flag flat with the Union Jack positioned in the bottom left corner. Remember: never let the flag touch the ground.
Fold the flag in half lengthwise, then fold it in half again.
Bring the flag's ends together neatly.
Concertina fold the flag by alternating forward and backward folds until it is compactly bundled.
Secure the flag by wrapping the rope around the folded bundle.
Handling:
Protect from Damage: Keep away from sharp objects or rough surfaces that could cause snags or tears.
Proper Installation: Ensure flags are fully hoisted and able to move freely.
Flag Exposure: Reduce exposure to the elements by lowering the flags at night or during harsh weather conditions.
Repairs:
Minor Repairs: If you notice any wear, tear, or fraying on your flag, promptly replace it with a spare and take the damaged flag to a seamstress for professional repair.
Replacement: As a flag nears the end of its life cycle, consider ordering a new one to ensure you have a fresh flag ready for upcoming celebrations or commemorations.
Flying the Flag:
Raising and Lowering: Raise the flag briskly and lower it respectfully and ceremoniously.
Time of Day: Only hoist the flag at dawn and lower it before dusk. Avoid raising it outside these hours unless it is illuminated.
Ceremonial Etiquette: During flag-raising or lowering ceremonies, or when the flag is carried in parades, observers should face the flag in silence, with those in uniform saluting.
Display Position: Ensure the flag flies freely and is positioned at the top of the flagpole, with the rope securely fastened.
Order of Flags: The Australian National Flag should be raised first and lowered last unless all flags in the ceremony are handled simultaneously.
With Other Nations: When flown with other national flags, they should all be of equal size, displayed on flagpoles of the same height.
Placement: The Australian flag should be positioned on the left of the observer when flown with another national flag.
One Flag Per Pole: Never fly two flags on the same pole.
Illumination: Fly the flag at night only if it is illuminated.
Condition: Retire any flag that is damaged, faded, or worn out.
Flag Disposal: When a flag is no longer fit for use, retire it with respect. This can involve cutting it into unrecognisable pieces, sealing them in a bag, and disposing of them discreetly. For a more formal approach, an optional flag retirement ceremony may be conducted.
Respect: The flag should never be flown upside down, used as a covering, or left to fall on the ground, except when draping a coffin at a funeral.
By following these care guidelines, you can help preserve your flag's vibrant colours and durability over time. Remember, your flag represents your pride in Australia and your identity. The care and attention you give to your flag reflect the respect and value you place on your heritage and reputation.
