How Two Portable EEZY Walls Created a 6m Event Backdrop

What do you do when a standard portable backdrop is not wide enough for the moment? For Melbourne Theatre Company’s premiere of Uncle Vanya, Evan Evans joined two portable EEZY Wall systems to create one impressive 6000 × 2400 mm event backdrop.

The six-metre-wide installation gave guests room to gather in front of the full campaign artwork while keeping Melbourne Theatre Company’s branding visible across event photography. It also showed how a modular display system can be scaled beyond a standard setup without turning the backdrop into a permanent structure.

The Challenge: A Portable Backdrop With Room for a Premiere

Premiere photography can involve individuals, couples and larger groups moving through the same branded photo area. A narrower wall may suit portraits, but it can leave the outer edges of the venue visible when more people enter the frame.

For the Uncle Vanya premiere, the backdrop also needed enough width to showcase the theatrical campaign artwork as a complete scene. The goal was not simply to repeat logos. It was to create a strong visual destination that felt connected to the production and remained useful across different photo compositions.

The Solution: Join Two EEZY Wall Systems

Rather than treating the available display size as fixed, the Evan Evans team used the modular design of the EEZY Wall. Two portable units were joined side by side to form one continuous six-metre backdrop.

The result delivered the scale of a custom installation while retaining the transportable hardware and replaceable printed graphics of a portable EEZY Wall display. For organisations running different productions or campaigns, that flexibility allows the hardware to be used again with new artwork.

Why a Modular Event Backdrop Worked Here

Width for group photography

The six-metre span gave larger groups room to stand comfortably while leaving the printed artwork visible around them.

A complete visual scene

The wide format allowed the campaign artwork to carry across the backdrop instead of relying on a conventional tiled sponsor pattern.

Portable display hardware

The system can be assembled for the event, packed down afterwards and transported for future use.

Replaceable printed graphics

The hardware can support a new skin when the production, campaign or event branding changes.

Planning a Wide Backdrop for Your Own Event

The right backdrop width is determined by more than the available wall space. Before artwork begins, consider how the display will be used in the room and how it needs to appear through a camera.

Expected group size

Plan for the largest likely group, not only individual portraits. This helps keep the background visible at both sides of the photograph.

Venue and camera position

Allow enough floor space for the display, guests, lighting and the photographer’s required shooting distance.

Artwork across joined units

Important faces, logos and text should be positioned with the complete joined configuration in mind.

Future campaigns

If the hardware will be reused, consider whether future events may require the full joined wall, separate units or replacement graphics.

A modular layout can suit red-carpet premieres, gala events, press calls, conferences, awards nights, brand launches and other occasions where the photo area needs more width than a standard backdrop. For a wider signage plan, explore Evan Evans’ gala, event and conference signage solutions.

Portable Event Backdrop FAQs

Can two portable EEZY Walls be joined together?

Yes. EEZY Wall systems can be joined side by side to create a wider display. For the Uncle Vanya premiere, two units formed one finished backdrop measuring 6000 × 2400 mm.

Why choose a modular backdrop instead of one permanent wall?

A modular portable system can be dismantled, transported and used again. The hardware may also be configured for different events, while replacement graphics allow the branding to change.

What is blockout material used for?

Blockout material helps stop light, objects and the supporting structure behind the display from showing through the printed face. This supports a cleaner result in person and in event photography.

What does Kedar top and bottom mean?

Kedar is fitted to the top and bottom edges of the printed skin so it can be secured into the EEZY Wall rails. Along with the hemmed side edges, it supports a neat, tensioned presentation.

Can the printed backdrop be replaced for another event?

Yes. Replacement printed skins can refresh the reusable hardware for a new production, sponsor, campaign or event.

How do I choose the right width for a group photo backdrop?

Consider the largest expected group, available floor space, camera position, lighting and the amount of artwork that should remain visible around people. Evan Evans can recommend a configuration after reviewing your event requirements.
