Custom ReFrame fabric display frames gave Monash University a bold way to bring student and staff stories into the physical Open Day environment. Positioned across the campus, the freestanding displays transformed detailed campaign artwork into highly visible, four-sided installations.

Each display combined large portraits, quotes, campaign messaging and QR codes within Monash University’s recognisable blue visual identity. The result was a series of information-rich displays that visitors could engage with from several directions as they moved through the campus.

This project demonstrates how fabric display systems can support broader school and campus signage solutions without relying on permanent structures or repeating the role of traditional wayfinding signage.

Open Days give prospective students and their families an opportunity to experience a university beyond its course guides and website. The physical environment needs to communicate the institution’s personality, community and values while remaining visually consistent across a large campus.

Four-Sided Displays Designed for Visual Storytelling

A ReFrame display can turn each visible face into a different communication opportunity. At Monash University, the artwork used portraits, personal quotes, campaign messages and supporting imagery to introduce visitors to a variety of experiences from across the university community.

This multi-face format is particularly useful when people can approach a display from different directions. Instead of presenting one message against a wall, the structure becomes part of the environment and encourages visitors to move around it.

What Is a ReFrame Fabric Display?

A ReFrame is a reusable display system that combines a lightweight frame with tensioned fabric graphics. It may also be described as a silicone-edge graphics frame, SEG frame or Matrix-style display system.

The printed fabric skin is finished with a silicone strip around its perimeter. That silicone edge fits into the frame channel, holding the graphic under tension and creating a clean appearance without exposed fixings around the face of the display.

Evan Evans’ silicone-edge graphics frames can be produced in custom configurations, including freestanding formats. The fabric graphics can also be replaced when campaign messaging changes, allowing the frame to support future events or communication programs.

Blockout Fabric Graphics for a Clean Finish

The supplied skins were printed on Blockout Display Fabric 3200. A blockout graphic helps reduce unwanted show-through, which is important when different artwork appears on adjoining or opposing display faces.

Each supplied skin measured 850 × 2000 mm and was printed in CMYK on one side. After printing, the graphics were trimmed to their finished size and completed with silicone edging around the perimeter.

Accurate production is essential for a tensioned fabric system. The artwork, finished dimensions and silicone edging must work together so the skin sits neatly within the frame and presents the campaign consistently across each face.

The Monash University project shows how freestanding fabric frames can support a large temporary event without making every display perform the same function.
