Materials and Construction
135gsm Trilobal Fabric
The flag is crafted from 135gsm Trilobal fabric, selected for its durability and colour retention. The material is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Header with Loops vs. Vertical Sleeve
The Header with Loops provides straightforward installation using reinforced loops and sister clips for a secure fit. The Vertical Sleeve features a side pocket that slides onto poles with diameters up to 28mm for a smooth display. Different sleeve sizes can be discussed upon request.
Hemmed Edges
The flag is hemmed along the top, bottom, left and right sides to help prevent fraying, improve durability and provide a neat finish.

- Cleaning:
- Wash Gently: Use a mild detergent to help avoid fading. Do not use bleach or similar products.
- Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, use a gentle cycle with cold water and place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to help prevent snagging.
- Drying: Air dry the flag by laying it flat or hanging it. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat can cause shrinkage and damage the fabric.
- Storage:
- Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Folding the Åland Flag:
- Lay the flag on a clean, flat surface with the design side facing down.
- Fold the flag in half lengthwise so the two shorter edges align and the design is inside.
- Smooth out any wrinkles and neatly align the edges.
- Fold the flag in half again lengthwise to create a long, narrow strip.
- Starting from one end, fold the flag into evenly sized triangular sections.
- Continue creating overlapping triangular folds until you reach the end.
- Tuck the final edge under the last triangle to secure the flag and keep the design protected.
- Handling:
- Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp items or surfaces that may cause snags or tears.
- Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly hoisted and free from obstructions.

Flying the Åland Flag
- Raising the Flag:
- Ensure the flagpole and its fittings are clean and in good condition before raising the flag.
- Securely attach the flag to the halyard or pole using the appropriate method for your flag's finish, whether loops or sleeve.
- Raise the flag smoothly and steadily, taking care to prevent snags or tangles and ensuring it is fully unfurled.
- Displaying the Flag:
- Position the flag with the design facing outward so it is clearly visible from the front.
- Display the flag at a height where it can be clearly seen while remaining manageable for care and maintenance.
- Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
- Raise the flag to the peak of the flagpole first.
- Gradually lower it to the half-mast position, halfway down the pole.
- Keep the flag at half-mast for the duration specified for the occasion or event, then raise it to full mast at the end of the commemoration or mourning period.
- Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
- Raise the flag to full mast at sunrise.
- Lower the flag at sunset or before dusk. If the flag is illuminated, it can be flown after dark; otherwise, it should be taken down.
- Weather Conditions:
- Avoid flying the flag in extremely high winds. If strong winds are expected, consider taking it down to help prevent damage.
- If the flag becomes wet or covered in snow, take it down and allow it to dry completely before flying it again.
- Retirement of the Flag:
- Regularly inspect the flag for signs of wear, such as fraying or fading. When it becomes too damaged, it should be retired.
