For lasting quality and vibrant colours of the Aruba flag, please follow these care guidelines:
Cleaning:
Wash Gently: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag, avoiding bleach or harsh chemicals that can cause fading.
Machine Wash: If machine washing is required, select a gentle cycle with cold water and place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent snags.
Drying: Air dry the flag by laying it flat or hanging it. Avoid tumble drying as high heat may shrink or damage the fabric.
Storage:
Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
Folding the Aruba Flag:
Lay the Flag Flat: Start by placing the flag on a clean, flat surface.
Fold Lengthwise: Fold the flag in half lengthwise, bringing the two shorter edges together, ensuring the alignment is smooth and even.
Fold Again Lengthwise: Fold the flag in half lengthwise once more, so the width is now reduced to a quarter of the original size.
Create Triangular Folds: Begin at the hoist side (the side with the loops or sleeve) and fold the flag diagonally into a triangle. Continue folding in triangular sections along the length of the flag until it reaches the end.
Neatly Tuck: After folding into a triangle, neatly tuck the remaining fabric under the last fold to ensure a compact and tidy shape.
Secure the Folded Flag: If necessary, use a ribbon or strap to secure the folded flag for storage, ensuring it remains compact and well-preserved.
Handling:
Avoid Sharp Objects: Prevent contact with sharp items or rough surfaces that could cause snags, tears, or abrasions.
Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly hoisted and not tangled or bunched.
Flag Exposure: Minimise exposure to harsh weather conditions and remove the flag in extreme weather or at night.
Repairs:
Minor Repairs: For any wear or fraying, promptly replace the flag with a spare and seek professional repair from a seamstress.
Replacement: As the flag approaches the end of its lifespan, consider ordering a new one to ensure you have a fresh flag for upcoming events or celebrations.
Flying the Aruba Flag:
Raising the Flag:
Prepare the Flag: Ensure the flag is clean and free of wrinkles before raising.
Attach Securely: Secure the flag to the halyard or pole using the appropriate method for your flag’s finish (loops or sleeve).
Hoist Smoothly: Raise the flag steadily and smoothly, ensuring it is fully unfurled and not tangled. The flag should reach the top of the pole with a deliberate and respectful motion.
Displaying the Flag:
Position the Flag: Display the flag with the red star in the upper left corner (hoist side). Ensure the flag is fully extended and not touching the ground.
Maintain Height: Ensure the flag is flown high enough to be visible and prominent. It should be displayed in a position where it can be seen clearly from a distance.
Avoid Obstructions: Keep the flag away from obstructions that might cause it to snag or become damaged.
Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
Raise to Full Mast First: Before lowering to half-mast, raise the flag to the top of the pole.
Lower Gradually: Gently lower the flag to the half-mast position, which is typically about halfway down the flagpole. Ensure the flag is evenly lowered and centred.
Raise to Full Mast to End: When concluding the period of mourning or commemoration, raise the flag back to full mast before lowering it completely.
Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
Sunrise: Raise the flag at sunrise, ensuring it is the first flag to be hoisted.
Sunset: Lower the flag at sunset, ideally before or as the sun sets. The flag should be lowered with care and folded properly if it is to be stored.
Weather Conditions:
Avoid Extreme Weather: Refrain from flying the flag during severe weather conditions such as heavy rain, strong winds, or storms, which can cause damage.
Protect from Harsh Elements: In adverse weather, take down the flag to prevent it from becoming worn or torn.
Retirement of the Flag:
Inspect Regularly: Regularly check the flag for signs of wear, damage, or fading.
Replace When Necessary: When the flag becomes too worn or damaged to be displayed properly, replace it with a new one.
Dispose Respectfully: Retire the old flag respectfully, ideally by arranging for it to be ceremoniously destroyed or by following local guidelines for flag disposal.
By adhering to these care instructions, you will ensure that your flag remains in excellent condition, preserving its vibrant colours and durability. Your flag represents your connection to Aruba, and the care you provide reflects your respect for its significance.
