1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to clean your flag, helping to protect its colours from fading. Avoid bleach or strong chemicals that could harm the fabric.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a delicate cycle with cold water and place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag to prevent damage.
   • Air Drying: Hang the flag or lay it flat to dry naturally. Avoid using a tumble dryer as heat can cause shrinking or fabric damage.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing. Store it in a cool, dry area away from moisture to prevent mildew or deterioration.
3. Folding the Channel Islands Flag:
   • Begin by laying the flag flat on a clean surface with the front side (the design) facing down.
   • Fold the flag lengthwise in half, aligning the edges carefully to keep the colours and symbols neat.
   • Fold it lengthwise a second time, narrowing the width to a manageable band while keeping the flag’s design visible on one side.
   • Starting at the end attached to the pole (the hoist), make a small triangular fold by bringing the corner of the folded edge to meet the opposite edge.
   • Continue folding the flag in a series of tight, overlapping triangles along its length, moving toward the fly end (the free end).
   • Keep each fold crisp and even to maintain a compact, tidy shape.
   • When you reach the end of the flag, tuck any remaining fabric inside the last triangle fold to secure the bundle neatly.
   • Store the folded flag in a clean, dry place to preserve its condition until next use.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag clear of anything that could snag or tear the fabric.
   • Secure Installation: Attach the flag firmly when flying to avoid unnecessary strain on the material.

5. Repairs:

Flying the Channel Islands Flag:

• Raising the Flag
  • For flags with header and loops, securely fasten the reinforced loops to the flagpole clips or hooks before raising to prevent slipping.
  • For flags with a vertical sleeve, carefully slide the flag onto the pole through the side pocket, ensuring it fits snugly for a smooth, clean display as you raise it.
  • Raise the Channel Islands flag steadily and with respect, bringing it to the top of the flagpole shortly after dawn.
  • Ensure the halyard is free of knots and securely fastened before hoisting.

  • Avoid flying the flag in darkness without suitable lighting, as this is considered disrespectful.
• Weather Conditions
  • Avoid flying the flag in strong winds, heavy rain, or stormy weather to prevent damage.
  • If the weather deteriorates while the flag is raised, bring it down to protect the fabric and preserve its colours.
