Proudly Represent the Channel Islands with Our Knitted Polyester Channel Islands Flag
The Channel Islands, a group of small islands in the English Channel, are celebrated for their rich maritime heritage, unique Anglo-Norman culture, and charming landscapes. Comprising Jersey, Guernsey, Sark, and Alderney, these islands boast a fascinating history, blending British tradition with French influence. Our Knitted Polyester Channel Islands Flag reflects this spirit, making it an ideal choice for proudly displaying your heritage.
The Channel Islands Flag:
The meaning behind the most recognised design includes:
Red Cross on White Field: Reflects the Channel Islands' status as Crown dependencies.
Yellow Cross (Guernsey): Symbolises William the Conqueror’s association with Normandy, acknowledging Guernsey’s Norman heritage.
Available Finishes:
Header with Loops: This style includes strong loops stitched at the top of the flag, along with sister clips for a firm and reliable connection to flagpoles or ropes.
Vertical Sleeve: Designed with a discreet pocket along the side, this option allows the flag to slide smoothly onto poles with diameters up to 28mm. If your flagpole has a different diameter, contact us to discuss tailored solutions.

Materials and Construction:
Trilobal 135gsm Fabric
Our flags are produced using Trilobal 135gsm fabric, valued for its durability and vibrant colour quality. This premium material is well-suited to both indoor displays and outdoor use, helping your flag stay eye-catching for longer.
Header with Loops vs. Vertical Sleeve
The Header with Loops finish offers a quick and practical setup using strong loops and sister clips for a stable fit. In contrast, the Vertical Sleeve provides a clean, elegant profile and simply slides onto poles up to 28mm wide. If you need a customised sleeve to suit another pole size, we’re here to help.
Hemmed Edges
Each flag is neatly hemmed on the top, bottom, left, and right edges to help prevent fraying and enhance durability. This adds a polished, professional look that holds up well over time.
Crafted with premium materials and attention to detail, our flags are made to perform well in diverse weather conditions while keeping their vibrant appearance. With a strong focus on quality, each flag is designed to be a lasting and meaningful representation of pride.
We’re dedicated to eco-conscious production by harnessing solar power, using zero water in our manufacturing process, and working with recycling partners to reduce waste responsibly. Find out more.

For lasting quality and vibrant colours of the flag, please follow these care guidelines:
Cleaning:
Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to clean your flag, helping to protect its colours from fading. Avoid bleach or strong chemicals that could harm the fabric.
Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a delicate cycle with cold water and place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag to prevent damage.
Air Drying: Hang the flag or lay it flat to dry naturally. Avoid using a tumble dryer as heat can cause shrinking or fabric damage.
Storage:
Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing. Store it in a cool, dry area away from moisture to prevent mildew or deterioration.
Folding the Channel Islands Flag:
Begin by laying the flag flat on a clean surface with the front side (the design) facing down.
Fold the flag lengthwise in half, aligning the edges carefully to keep the colours and symbols neat.
Fold it lengthwise a second time, narrowing the width to a manageable band while keeping the flag’s design visible on one side.
Starting at the end attached to the pole (the hoist), make a small triangular fold by bringing the corner of the folded edge to meet the opposite edge.
Continue folding the flag in a series of tight, overlapping triangles along its length, moving toward the fly end (the free end).
Keep each fold crisp and even to maintain a compact, tidy shape.
When you reach the end of the flag, tuck any remaining fabric inside the last triangle fold to secure the bundle neatly.
Store the folded flag in a clean, dry place to preserve its condition until next use.
Handling:
Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag clear of anything that could snag or tear the fabric.
Secure Installation: Attach the flag firmly when flying to avoid unnecessary strain on the material.
Minimise Exposure: Take the flag down during severe weather or at night to help preserve its condition.
Repairs:
Minor Repairs: For small rips or loose threads, have the flag repaired professionally or replace it if damage is extensive.
Replacement: If the flag shows obvious wear, consider purchasing a new one to keep your display crisp and respectful.
Flying the Channel Islands Flag:
Raising the Flag
For flags with header and loops, securely fasten the reinforced loops to the flagpole clips or hooks before raising to prevent slipping.
For flags with a vertical sleeve, carefully slide the flag onto the pole through the side pocket, ensuring it fits snugly for a smooth, clean display as you raise it.
Raise the Channel Islands flag steadily and with respect, bringing it to the top of the flagpole shortly after dawn.
Ensure the halyard is free of knots and securely fastened before hoisting.
When flown alongside other flags, the Channel Islands flag should be raised first and positioned in the place of honour, typically the highest or most central spot.
Displaying the Flag
Display the flag with the correct orientation so the design appears properly from the front.
If displayed vertically, position the emblem or distinctive features so they appear upright and clearly visible.
The flag must never touch the ground, water, or any other surfaces beneath it to maintain dignity.
Flying the Flag Half-Mast
To show respect or mourning, first raise the flag briskly to the peak before lowering it to halfway down the pole.
Keep the flag at half-mast until the end of the period of mourning, or as advised by official protocols.
When taking the flag down, raise it again to the top before fully lowering it to conclude the ceremony properly.
Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset
The flag should be raised promptly at sunrise and lowered carefully at sunset each day.
If the flag is displayed at night, ensure it is well-illuminated to honour the flag properly.
Avoid flying the flag in darkness without suitable lighting, as this is considered disrespectful.
Weather Conditions
Avoid flying the flag in strong winds, heavy rain, or stormy weather to prevent damage.
If the weather deteriorates while the flag is raised, bring it down to protect the fabric and preserve its colours.
Retirement of the Flag
When the flag becomes faded, torn, or otherwise unfit for display, retire it in a respectful manner.
Traditional retirement involves a private and dignified disposal, often by burning.
Contact local organisations or authorities if unsure about the proper way to retire the flag to show continued respect.
By following these steps, your flag will stay bright and in excellent condition for years to come. Caring for your flag honours the heritage and pride it represents.
