1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Always wash the flag using a mild detergent to minimise fading. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals that can harm the colours.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from snagging.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Refrain from tumble drying, as high temperatures may shrink or damage the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing it. Keep the flag in a cool, dry, and secure location to prevent moisture damage.
3. Folding the Guyana Flag:
   • Lay the Flag Flat: Start by placing the flag on a clean, flat surface with the hoist (the side with the fastening) facing towards you.
   • Fold Lengthwise: Fold the flag in half lengthwise, bringing the bottom edge up to meet the top edge. Ensure that the edges align evenly.
   • Second Lengthwise Fold: Fold it in half lengthwise again, reducing the width further. Make sure the flag remains smooth and flat without creases.
   • Create a Triangle: Starting from the hoist end, take the corner of the folded edge and fold it over to form a triangle, ensuring the flag's emblem is visible.
   • Continue Folding: Continue folding the flag into triangles by bringing the top point down to meet the bottom edge, then folding it over again to form the next triangle. Repeat this step until you reach the end of the flag.
   • Tuck in the Last Triangle: Once you have folded the entire length of the flag into triangles, tuck the last point into the folds to secure it in place. This keeps the flag neatly folded and prevents it from unfolding.
   • Final Adjustments: Adjust the folded flag as needed to ensure it maintains a neat appearance, with the emblem facing outward if displayed.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp items or rough surfaces that might cause snags or tears.
   • Secure Installation: Make sure the flag is firmly fastened when displayed to prevent unnecessary strain on the fabric.
   • Minimise Exposure: Take down the flag during severe weather or overnight to maintain its condition.
5. Repairs:

Flying the Guyana Flag:

• Raising the Flag:
  • Begin by ensuring the flagpole is secure and stable.
  • Using Header with Loops: If your flag features reinforced loops, slide the loops over the flagpole and secure them with sister clips. Make sure the flag is aligned properly before raising it.
  • Using Vertical Sleeve: For flags with a vertical sleeve, slide the flag onto the flagpole until the top edge is just below the top of the pole. Ensure it is snugly fit and securely in place before raising it to the top.
  • Raise the flag briskly and smoothly. Avoid letting the flag touch the ground during the process.
• Displaying the Flag:
  • When displaying the flag, ensure it is flown in a prominent location where it can be easily seen and appreciated.
  • The Guyana flag should be flown in an upright position, with the yellow triangle pointing to the right side when viewed from the front.
  • If flying multiple flags, ensure the Guyana flag is at the same height or to the left of other flags, displaying it with the proper respect it deserves.
• Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
  • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the pole briefly before lowering it to the halfway mark.
  • The flag should be lowered to a position where its midpoint is aligned with the height of the flagpole or at a position that signifies mourning, depending on the guidelines provided by local authorities.
  • When lowering the flag from half-mast, raise it back to the top position before taking it down completely.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
  • It is customary to raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset to honour the day’s beginning and end.
  • If illuminated, the flag can be flown at night, but it should always be displayed properly, with the emblem facing the correct direction.
  • During daylight hours, the flag should be raised promptly at dawn and lowered respectfully at dusk.
• Weather Conditions:
  • Always assess the weather before flying the flag. If high winds, storms, or severe weather are forecasted, it is advisable to take the flag down to prevent damage.
  • In rainy conditions, ensure the flag is constructed from weather-resistant materials to maintain its integrity. If possible, avoid flying the flag during heavy rain or strong winds.
