xCare Guidelines for the Haiti Flag
To help maintain the quality and colour of your Haiti flag, follow these simple care guidelines.
- Cleaning
- Use a mild detergent and avoid bleach or harsh chemicals.
- If machine washing is required, use a gentle cold-water cycle and place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to help prevent snagging.
- Air dry the flag by laying it flat or hanging it up. Do not tumble dry.
- Storage
- Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing.
- Store it in a cool, dry place away from moisture.
- Folding the Haiti Flag
- Lay the flag face down on a clean, flat surface.
- Fold the flag in half lengthwise, aligning the top and bottom edges.
- Fold it in half lengthwise again to create a long, narrow strip.
- Starting from the hoist side, make neat accordion-style folds of approximately 15cm.
- Adjust the folds so the flag forms a compact rectangle.
- Secure the folded flag with a soft cloth ribbon or place it in a protective flag bag.
- Handling
- Keep the flag away from sharp objects and abrasive surfaces.
- Ensure the flag is securely attached when displayed.
- Remove the flag during severe weather or overnight to help maintain its condition.
- Repairs
- Small tears or fraying may be patched or repaired by a professional seamstress.
- If the flag becomes heavily worn, faded or damaged, consider replacing it for a cleaner presentation.
Flying the Haiti Flag
- Raising the Flag
- Ensure the flag is fully unfolded and free from creases before raising it.
- For Header with Loops, thread the halyard through the reinforced loops and secure it before raising.
- For Vertical Sleeve, slide the flag onto the pole and ensure it sits securely in place.
- Displaying the Flag
- Display the flag where it is clearly visible and not blocked by other objects.
- Ensure the coat of arms is facing forward and visible.
- If displayed with other flags, keep the Haiti flag at the same height or higher where appropriate.
- Half-Mast Display
- Raise the flag to the top of the pole before lowering it to the halfway point.
- When lowering from half-mast, raise it briefly to the top before bringing it down fully.
- Sunrise and Sunset
- Raise the flag at sunrise and lower it respectfully at sunset.
- If the flag is flown overnight, ensure it is properly illuminated.
- Weather Conditions
- Avoid flying the flag during strong winds, heavy rain or severe weather.
- Take the flag down when harsh conditions are expected to reduce wear and tear.
- Retirement of the Flag
- When the flag becomes worn, faded or damaged beyond repair, retire it respectfully.
- Replace it with a new flag when needed to keep your display clean and presentable.
