1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Always use a mild detergent to wash the flag to preserve its colours. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that could damage the fabric.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent it from catching on other items.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to dry naturally. Avoid tumble drying as high heat may shrink or damage the material.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from moisture to prevent any damage.
3. Folding the Libya Flag:
   • Start by laying the flag flat on a clean, smooth surface to avoid creases or damage.
   • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, aligning the top and bottom edges carefully.
   • Once folded, align the edges again and fold the flag in half once more to create a narrower rectangle.
   • Continue folding the flag in half, making sure the edges remain aligned, until it reaches a compact, manageable size.
   • For storage, ensure the flag is neatly folded to prevent wrinkles and preserve its condition.
   • Avoid folding the flag too tightly, as this may cause permanent creases or stress on the fabric.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp items or rough surfaces that could cause tears or snags.
   • Secure Installation: Make sure the flag is properly attached when displayed, reducing the risk of strain on the fabric.
   • Minimise Exposure: Take down the flag during extreme weather or overnight to protect it from damage.
5. Repairs:
   • Minor Repairs: For small rips or fraying, it is advisable to have the flag professionally repaired by a seamstress.
   • Replacement: If the flag is severely worn, consider replacing it to maintain its appearance during important events or displays.

Flying the Libya Flag:

• Raising the Flag:
  • Ensure the flagpole is securely installed and free from any obstructions before raising the flag.
  • Using the Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops at the top of the flag to the flagpole’s hooks or sister clips. Make sure the loops are firmly secured for stable flight.
  • Using the Vertical Sleeve: Slide the flag’s side pocket (vertical sleeve) onto the flagpole, ensuring the flag is centred and free from any twists or folds.
  • Raise the Libya flag briskly to the top of the flagpole, ensuring it does not touch the ground. The flag should fly at full height unless indicated otherwise.
• Displaying the Flag:
  • When displayed vertically, the flag should be oriented with the red stripe at the top and the crescent and star facing forward.
  • Ensure the flag is visible and not obscured by any objects, allowing its full design to be clearly seen.
  • The flag should always be flown with respect, standing upright and not hanging limply.
• Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
  • To fly the flag at half-mast, raise the flag to the top of the pole first, then lower it halfway down the flagpole.
  • The position of the flag should be in the centre of the pole, indicating mourning or respect for a solemn occasion.
  • When lowering the flag from half-mast, raise it back to full height briefly before lowering it completely.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
  • It is customary to raise the flag at sunrise, ensuring it is fully hoisted by the time the sun is fully up.
  • The flag should be lowered at sunset, ideally before the last light fades. If the flag is left up overnight, ensure it is properly illuminated or taken down to preserve its condition.
  • If the flag is flown overnight, it should only be done with proper lighting to avoid it being displayed in darkness.
• Weather Conditions:
  • The Libya flag should be taken down during extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain, strong winds, or snow to prevent damage.
  • In windy conditions, consider using weather-resistant flag materials that can withstand harsh elements.
  • During storms, it is best to take the flag down until the weather clears to prevent the flag from tearing or becoming soiled.
