135gsm Trilobal Fabric
Crafted from 135gsm Trilobal knitted polyester fabric, this flag combines practical durability with vibrant colour reproduction. Its lightweight construction is suitable for everyday indoor and outdoor flag display.
Header with Loops vs. Vertical Sleeve
The Header with Loops finish provides a straightforward attachment using reinforced loops and sister clips. The Vertical Sleeve offers a clean display by sliding over flagpoles up to 28mm in diameter. Custom sleeve sizes are available on request.
Hemmed Edges
The flag features reinforced hems on the top, bottom, left and right edges to help reduce fraying while maintaining a neat, professional appearance.

- Cleaning:
- Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag. Avoid harsh chemicals such as bleach, which may damage the colours.
- Machine Washing: If machine washing is necessary, use a gentle cold-water cycle and place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to help prevent snagging or wear.
- Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid tumble drying, as heat may shrink or damage the fabric.
- Storage:
- Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing it in a cool, dry place to help prevent moisture-related damage.
- Folding the Papua New Guinea Flag:
- Prepare the Flag: Lay the flag flat on a clean, dry surface with the design facing upwards and smooth out any wrinkles.
- First Lengthwise Fold: Bring the bottom edge up to meet the top edge, ensuring the black and red sections align evenly. Smooth out any creases.
- Second Lengthwise Fold: Fold the flag lengthwise again to create a narrow, even strip.
- Align the Design: Keep the Southern Cross stars and Raggiana bird-of-paradise aligned for a neat appearance.
- Final Fold: Starting from the side opposite the sleeve or loops, fold the flag into equal sections to form a compact rectangle.
- Store Properly: Place the folded flag in a protective cover or a clean, dry space to help protect it from dust and damage.
- Handling:
- Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp edges and rough surfaces that could tear or snag the fabric.
- Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly fastened to help prevent unnecessary strain or damage while displayed.
- Minimise Exposure: Take the flag down during harsh weather or overnight to help maintain its quality and appearance.
- Repairs:
- Minor Repairs: For small tears or frayed edges, seek assistance from a professional seamstress.
- Replacement: If the flag becomes significantly worn or damaged, consider replacing it for important displays or occasions.
Flying the Papua New Guinea Flag
- Raising the Flag:
- Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops to the flagpole or rope using the sister clips and ensure the flag is securely fastened before raising it.
- Vertical Sleeve: Slide the vertical sleeve over the flagpole, align the flag and secure it in place before raising.
- Raise the flag briskly and avoid allowing it to touch the ground.
- Hoist the flag with the red triangle section at the top right when viewed from the front.
- Ensure the flag is fully unfurled and the Southern Cross stars and Raggiana bird-of-paradise are properly displayed.
- Displaying the Flag:
- When displayed with other flags, position the Papua New Guinea flag appropriately and ensure it is not displayed in an inferior position.
- Display the flag upright with the design correctly oriented.
- When displayed alongside other flags, use similar flag sizes where appropriate for a consistent presentation.
- Flying the Flag at Half-Mast:
- The flag may be flown at half-mast during recognised periods of mourning or to mark the passing of significant figures.
- Raise the flag to the top of the flagpole before lowering it to the half-mast position.
- Before lowering the flag at the end of the display period, raise it to the top of the pole first.
- Sunrise and Sunset:
- Raise the flag at sunrise and ensure it is fully unfurled and correctly displayed.
- At sunset, take the flag down unless it is appropriately illuminated for overnight display.
- Handle the flag respectfully when raising or lowering it and avoid allowing it to touch the ground.
- Weather Conditions:
- Take the flag down during extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain, storms or strong winds to help prevent damage.
- Store the flag in a dry, protected area until conditions improve.
- Regularly inspect flags used for prolonged outdoor display for signs of wear.
- Retirement of the Flag:
- When the flag becomes worn, faded or damaged beyond repair, retire it respectfully.
- Handle and dispose of the flag in a dignified manner that reflects its national significance.
