San Marino Flag Care Guidelines

Follow these care guidelines to help maintain the appearance and condition of your San Marino flag.

1. Cleaning
   • Gentle washing: Use a mild detergent and avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that may fade or damage the fabric.
   • Machine washing: If required, use a gentle cycle with cold water and place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag to help prevent snags.
   • Air drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Do not tumble dry, as high heat may damage or weaken the fabric.
2. Storage
   • Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing it in a cool, dry place.
   • Keep it away from moisture, sharp objects and abrasive surfaces.
3. Folding the San Marino Flag
   • Lay the flag flat on a clean surface and align the white and blue sections evenly.
   • Fold it in half lengthwise, bringing the top edge down to meet the bottom edge.

Flying the San Marino Flag

• Raising the Flag
  • Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops to the flagpole using sister clips or compatible attachments.
  • Vertical Sleeve: Slide the sleeve over the flagpole and position the flag with the white field at the top and the blue field below.
  • Raise the flag carefully, ensuring it is fully unfurled and free from tangles or folds.
• Displaying the Flag
  • Display the flag in a clear and visible position.
  • When flown with other flags, use an appropriate height and arrangement for the display.
  • Check that the flag is secured correctly and is not obstructed.
• Flying the Flag at Half-Mast
  • Raise the flag to the top of the pole before lowering it to the half-mast position.

  • Bring the flag down during heavy rain, snow, strong winds or other severe conditions.
  • Inspect the flag regularly for fraying, loose stitching or other signs of wear.
  • Do not continue flying the flag when conditions may cause damage.
• Retiring the Flag
  • When the flag is no longer suitable for display, remove it respectfully.
  • It may be folded and stored for ceremonial purposes or disposed of appropriately.
  • Consult a relevant local authority or organisation when guidance on respectful disposal is required.
