The Scotland Flag:
The Scotland Flag, also called the Saltire or Saint Andrew’s Cross, is steeped in centuries of symbolism and national pride. Its simple yet striking design holds significant meaning:
White Diagonal Cross: Represents Saint Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland, who was crucified on an X-shaped cross.
Blue Background: Symbolises the sky above Scotland and reflects hope, strength, and loyalty.
Together, the bold cross and vivid blue field stand as a testament to Scottish resilience, freedom, and unity.
Available Finishes:
Header with Loops: This option comes with reinforced loops at the top of the flag, along with convenient sister clips, providing a strong and secure way to attach the flag to flagpoles or ropes.

Trilobal 135gsm Fabric
Each flag is produced using premium Trilobal 135gsm fabric, chosen for its durability and excellent colour vibrancy. This versatile material performs well indoors or outdoors, helping your Scotland Flag stay vivid and eye-catching for longer.
Header with Loops vs. Vertical Sleeve
The Header with Loops finish provides a straightforward, secure way to display your flag with its strong loops and sister clips. In comparison, the Vertical Sleeve style offers a tidy look, sliding neatly over poles up to 28mm wide. Custom sleeve sizes are also available to suit unique needs.
Hemmed Edges
All flags are hemmed on the top, bottom, left, and right edges to help prevent fraying, adding strength and giving each flag a crisp, polished look.
Through the use of high-grade materials and careful construction, our flags are made to handle different weather conditions while keeping their bright, bold colours. Our commitment to quality means you receive a flag that is built to last and always looks impressive.
We proudly aim to lessen our environmental impact by using solar energy in our production, avoiding water use, and partnering with recycling companies to manage waste responsibly. Find out more.

For lasting quality and vibrant colours of the flag, please follow these care guidelines:
Cleaning:
Gentle Washing: Always wash your flag with a mild detergent to help maintain its colours. Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals that could weaken the fabric.
Machine Wash: If using a washing machine, choose a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag to prevent it catching or snagging.
Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it up to dry naturally. Do not tumble dry, as high heat can shrink or damage the material.
Storage:
Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before folding and storing it. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from dampness or direct sunlight when not in use.
Folding the Scotland Flag:
Lay the flag out flat on a clean, dry surface with the Saltire fully visible and any creases gently smoothed by hand.
Bring the bottom edge up to meet the top edge, folding the flag lengthwise while keeping the white cross aligned neatly.
Fold it lengthwise once more so the flag forms a long, narrow strip with the cross still clearly visible.
Starting at the fly end (the side furthest from the hoist), fold the flag into neat rectangles, working slowly towards the hoist edge.
Make sure each fold is smooth and even, pressing out any air pockets as you go to keep the flag compact and tidy.
Once folded, place the flag in a clean, protective bag or wrap it in acid-free tissue paper to keep it safe from moisture and dust while stored.
Handling:
Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag clear of sharp edges or rough surfaces that could cause tears or pulls.
Secure Installation: Attach the flag firmly when displaying it to prevent unnecessary stress on seams and fabric.
Minimise Exposure: Take the flag down during storms, high winds or overnight to prolong its lifespan.
Repairs:
Minor Repairs: If you notice small tears or frayed edges, consider having them repaired by a professional before further damage occurs.
Replacement: If the flag becomes overly worn, replacing it will help you maintain a respectful and presentable display.
Flying the Scotland Flag:
Raising the Flag:
For flags with a header with loops, securely fasten the loops to the halyard clips or rope hooks before raising. If using a vertical sleeve, slide the pole carefully through the sleeve pocket until the flag sits evenly, then raise the pole to display the flag fully.
Always hoist the Scotland Flag briskly and smoothly to the top of the flagpole.
Double-check that the flag is properly attached to prevent it slipping or twisting while flying.
When raising alongside other flags, the Saltire should be given a place of prominence whenever appropriate.
Displaying the Flag:
The flag should be flown with the white diagonal cross extending clearly from corner to corner and positioned upright.
Make sure it is displayed in a clean, respectful area, free from obstructions that could tangle or catch the fabric.
Avoid placing any items directly below the flag that could cause it to rest on other objects.
Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
When flown at half-mast as a mark of respect or mourning, first raise the flag fully to the top for a moment.
Lower it slowly to a position roughly one-third down the flagpole length.
Before lowering it completely at the end of the day, raise it back to the top briefly, then bring it down with care.
Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
The Scotland Flag should be hoisted at sunrise and lowered respectfully at sunset unless illuminated properly during night hours.
When taking it down, handle it gently so it does not touch the ground or other surfaces.
Folding and storing the flag straight after lowering helps keep it in top condition.
Weather Conditions:
Bring the flag down in strong winds, heavy rain, or severe weather to prevent wear and tear.
Prolonged exposure to harsh weather can damage the fabric and fade its colours over time.
Inspect the flag after rough weather to check for any repairs needed.
Retirement of the Flag:
When the flag becomes too worn, torn, or faded to display proudly, it should be retired with dignity.
Traditionally, an old flag may be disposed of by cutting it into pieces so it no longer resembles the original design, then discarding it respectfully.
Many prefer to replace the old flag promptly to continue flying Scotland’s colours with pride and respect.
By following these simple steps, your flag will stay bright and in excellent condition for many years. Looking after your flag shows respect for your heritage and the proud spirit it represents.
