To maintain the flag’s durability and rich colours, follow these care instructions:

1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to protect the fabric and minimise fading. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that may damage the colours.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, use a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent snagging.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Do not tumble dry, as high heat may shrink or weaken the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Always ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture damage and fabric deterioration.
3. Folding the South Korea Flag:
   • Lay the flag flat on a clean, dry surface with the Taegeuk symbol facing upwards. Ensure the flag is free from wrinkles.
   • Fold the flag in half lengthwise so that the white field remains visible, aligning the top and bottom edges neatly.
   • Fold it in half again lengthwise, bringing the edges together while keeping the Taegeuk and black trigrams centred and visible.
   • Begin folding from the hoist side (the side with the loops or sleeve), creating a neat rectangular shape.
   • Continue folding until the flag is compact, ensuring that the Taegeuk remains as visible as possible in the final fold.
   • Store the folded flag in a dry, safe place to prevent creases or damage, preserving its quality for future use.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp edges and rough surfaces to prevent snags or tears.
   • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly fastened when displayed to minimise fabric strain.
   • Minimise Exposure: To prolong lifespan, bring the flag indoors during extreme weather conditions or overnight.
5. Repairs:
   • Minor Repairs: If small tears or fraying occur, consider taking the flag to a professional seamstress for repair.
   • Replacement: When the flag shows significant wear, replace it to maintain a respectful and vibrant display.

Flying the South Korea Flag:

• Raising the Flag
  • Using a Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops to the flagpole clips or rope, securing them firmly to prevent the flag from detaching in the wind.
  • Using a Vertical Sleeve: Slide the pole through the sleeve, hanging the flag evenly without twisting. Secure it at the top with a fastener if needed, and make sure it remains fully extended.
  • Hoist the South Korean flag (Taegeukgi) briskly and with respect, unfurling it fully.
  • The flag should always be raised first before any other flags when flown alongside non-national banners.
  • If raising multiple flags of different countries, the South Korean flag should be at the same height as others, following international flag protocols.
• Displaying the Flag
  • When hung vertically on a wall or building, the Taegeuk (red and blue circle) must be centred, with the red half at the right and the black trigrams properly positioned.
  • When draped horizontally, ensure the Taegeuk is upright, and the flag remains untangled and fully visible.
  • The flag should not touch the ground, floor, or any unclean surfaces.
• Flying the Flag at Half-Mast
  • The Taegeukgi is flown at half-mast during periods of national mourning or in honour of significant figures who have passed away.
  • To position it at half-mast, first hoist the flag to the top of the pole briefly before lowering it to the midpoint.
  • Before bringing it down for the day, the flag must be raised fully to the top before being lowered completely.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset
  • The South Korean flag should be raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset when displayed outdoors.
  • If flown at night, it should be properly illuminated to ensure visibility and respect.
  • During flag ceremonies, individuals should face the flag and stand at attention while it is being raised or lowered.
• Weather Conditions
  • The flag should not be flown during severe weather, such as heavy rain, strong winds, or storms, to prevent damage.
  • If exposed to harsh conditions, properly clean and dry it before the next use.
  • For long-term outdoor display, consider using weather-resistant materials to maintain the flag’s integrity.
• Retirement of the Flag
  • When the flag becomes too worn, faded, or tattered, it should be replaced with a new one.
