Cleaning
- Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to help preserve the colours and fabric. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that may cause fading.
- Machine Washing: Select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to help prevent damage.
- Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to dry naturally. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat may shrink or weaken the fabric.

- Proper Storage: Allow the flag to dry completely before storing it to help prevent mould or mildew. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity.

Folding the Sweden Flag
- Lay the Flag Flat: Place the flag on a clean, dry surface with the yellow Nordic cross facing upwards. Smooth out any wrinkles before folding.
- Fold Lengthwise: Bring the bottom edge up to meet the top edge, keeping the yellow cross visible and the edges neatly aligned.
- Fold Lengthwise Again: Fold the flag once more in the same direction, maintaining its rectangular shape while reducing its width.
- Create a Compact Fold: Continue folding the flag horizontally in even sections until it forms a manageable rectangle.
- Final Adjustments: Gently press along the folds to keep them neat. For extended storage, consider rolling the flag loosely to help avoid deep creases.

Flying the Sweden Flag

Raising the Flag
- Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops to the halyard clips and fasten them securely before hoisting. Pull the halyard steadily to raise the flag.
- Vertical Sleeve: Slide the flagpole through the sleeve opening, ensuring the flag is evenly positioned along the pole before lifting it upright.
- Raise the flag briskly and respectfully, hoisting it smoothly to the top of the flagpole.
- During official ceremonies or national events, the flag may be raised while the Swedish national anthem, Du gamla, Du fria, is played or observed in silence.

Displaying the Flag
- Fly the Sweden Flag in a dignified manner, allowing it to extend fully without touching the ground or nearby objects.
- When displayed with non-national flags, place the Sweden Flag at the highest point.
- Keep the yellow cross in its correct orientation, with the longer arm extending to the right when viewed from the front.

Flying the Flag at Half-Mast
- First raise the flag fully to the top of the flagpole before lowering it to a position approximately one-third down from the top.
- On days of mourning, the flag may remain at half-mast until sunset. Before lowering it completely, raise it to the top again.
- When displayed with other flags at half-mast, raise the Sweden Flag first and lower it last.

Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset
- In Sweden, the flag is traditionally raised at 8:00 AM from March to October and at 9:00 AM from November to February. It should be lowered before sunset.
- If displayed during dark hours, illuminate the flag so it remains visible.
- On significant occasions, including Sweden’s National Day on 6 June, the flag may be flown from morning until late evening.
