To help maintain the appearance and extend the lifespan of your Tuvalu Flag, follow these recommended care guidelines.
- Cleaning
- Gentle Washing: Wash using a mild detergent to help preserve the flag's colours. Avoid bleach or harsh cleaning products.
- Machine Washing: If machine washing is required, use a cold, delicate cycle and place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag to minimise snagging.
- Air Drying: Hang the flag or lay it flat to dry naturally. Avoid tumble drying, as excessive heat may damage the polyester fibres.
- Storage
- Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight and moisture to help prevent mildew.
- Folding the Tuvalu Flag
- Lay the flag flat with the Union Jack positioned in the upper hoist-side corner.
- Smooth out any creases before folding.
- Fold the flag lengthwise in half, then fold lengthwise again to create a long strip.
- Starting from the fly end, fold into even sections towards the hoist until a compact rectangle is formed.
- The final fold should leave the Union Jack and stars visible where practical.
- Store the folded flag in a protective cloth or container to minimise dust, moisture and UV exposure.
- Handling
- Avoid contact with sharp edges or rough surfaces that may cause tears or snags.
- Secure the flag correctly to reduce unnecessary strain during use.

Flying the Tuvalu Flag
- Raising the Flag
- Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops securely to your halyard clips or carabiners.
- Vertical Sleeve: Slide the pole carefully through the sleeve and secure the pole firmly in its base.
- Raise the flag smoothly and ensure the Union Jack is positioned in the upper hoist-side corner.
- Avoid allowing the flag to touch the ground during installation.
- Displaying the Flag
- Fly the flag in a prominent location where it can move freely.
- When displayed alongside other national flags, all flags should be flown at equal height.
- For indoor displays, position the flag appropriately for the venue or presentation.
- Flying at Half-Mast
- Raise the flag to the top of the pole before lowering it to the half-mast position.
- When lowering, briefly return it to full mast before bringing it down.
- Half-mast display should be reserved for official periods of mourning or recognised commemorative occasions.
- Daily Flag Etiquette
- Where practical, raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset.
- If flown overnight, ensure the flag is adequately illuminated.
- Weather Conditions
- Avoid displaying the flag during severe weather to minimise unnecessary wear.

- Retiring the Flag
- When the flag is no longer suitable for display due to wear or damage, retire it respectfully.
