To help preserve the flag’s colours and overall condition, follow these care instructions:

Cleaning
- Gentle washing: Use a mild detergent to help protect the colours and fabric. Do not use bleach or abrasive cleaning products.
- Machine washing: If necessary, wash in cold water on a delicate cycle. Place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag to help prevent damage.
- Air drying: Hang or lay the flag flat to dry in the shade. Do not tumble dry, as heat may weaken or shrink the fabric over time.

- Proper storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing it in a clean, dry and well-ventilated area.

Folding the United States of America Flag
- Begin with two people: Hold the flag horizontally at waist height, keeping it taut and flat.
- Fold lengthwise once: Bring the bottom edge up to meet the top edge, with the stars facing outward.
- Fold lengthwise again: Repeat the fold so the flag is one-quarter of its original height, with the stars still visible.
- Start the triangular fold: Beginning at the striped end, fold one corner diagonally to form a triangle.
- Continue the triangular folds: Repeat the folding motion towards the blue field, keeping the edges aligned.
- Tuck the end: When only the blue union remains, tuck the remaining fabric into the final fold.
- Check the final shape: The folded flag should form a triangle with only the blue field and white stars visible.

Raising the Flag
- Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops to the halyard or rope system using the supplied sister clips. Ensure the clips are secure before hoisting.
- Vertical Sleeve: Slide the flagpole through the sleeve until the flag fits securely.
- Raise the flag briskly to the top of the pole.
- Handle the flag respectfully and do not allow it to touch the ground.
- When displayed with other flags, position the United States flag in the place of honour.

Displaying the Flag
- When displayed vertically or horizontally on a wall or in a window, position the blue field with stars at the top left from the viewer’s perspective.
- When flown with other national flags, use separate poles of equal height and do not display another flag above the United States flag.
- Do not use the flag as drapery, clothing or a covering for surfaces or objects.

Flying the Flag at Half-Mast
- Raise the flag fully to the top of the pole before lowering it to the half-mast position.
- Before taking it down, raise it to the top again and then lower it completely.
