- Cleaning:

- Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, choose a gentle cycle and place the flag inside a mesh bag for added protection.
- Air Drying: Air drying is best. Hang or lay the flag flat in a shaded area. Avoid dryers, as heat can cause shrinkage or damage to the fabric.
- Storage:
- Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing it to help prevent mould or mildew. Keep it in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and damp conditions.
- Folding the Uruguay Flag:
- Lay the flag on a clean, flat surface with the design facing up, ensuring there are no creases or wrinkles.
- Fold the flag lengthwise once, bringing the bottom edge up to meet the top edge so the Sun of May emblem remains visible and upright.
- Fold it lengthwise again, aligning the new bottom edge with the top to form a long, narrow rectangle.
- Starting at the fly end, fold the flag inward in equal sections, keeping the folds neat and even.
- Continue folding until the flag is compact and rectangular, with the Sun of May symbol showing on the top layer.
- Place the folded flag in a protective cloth or sleeve for long-term storage and keep it in a dry, clean location.
- Handling:
- Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep your flag away from rough edges or sharp items that could snag or tear the material.
- Secure Installation: Attach the flag firmly to poles or mounts to minimise stress on seams.
- Minimise Exposure: Bring the flag indoors during heavy rain, high winds, or overnight to help protect its condition.
- Repairs:
- Minor Repairs: Minor rips or frayed edges can often be repaired by a professional tailor. Swap out your flag temporarily to keep your display looking its best.
- Replacement: When your flag is significantly worn or faded, consider replacing it with a fresh flag for special events or public displays.
Flying the Uruguay Flag
- Raising the Flag:
- For flags with a Header with Loops, attach the sister clips on the pole's halyard to the loops at the top of the flag for a secure hold.
- For flags with a Vertical Sleeve, gently slide the pole through the side pocket until fully in place. The flag should flow freely without obstruction.
- Hoist the flag briskly and smoothly to the top of the flagpole as a sign of national pride and respect.
- The Sun of May should be positioned in the upper hoist-side quadrant and facing the correct direction.
- Avoid letting the flag touch the ground during raising or lowering.
- Displaying the Flag:
- When flown with other national flags, the Uruguay flag should be of equal size and flown at the same height.
- On a single flagpole, no other flag should be placed above the Uruguay flag.
- If displayed indoors, the flag should hang flat against a wall or be draped respectfully from a pole at an angle.
- Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
- Raise the flag to the top of the pole first, then slowly lower it to a position halfway down the flagpole.
- This position signifies mourning or remembrance during national observances or significant events.
- When lowering the flag from half-mast, first raise it fully before bringing it down respectfully.
- Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
- Ideally, the Uruguay flag should be raised at sunrise and taken down at sunset.
- If flown at night, it should be properly illuminated to ensure it remains visible in darkness.
- Taking the flag down at sunset is considered a gesture of care and honour.
- Weather Conditions:
