Materials and Construction
135gsm Trilobal Fabric
Made from robust 135gsm Trilobal fabric, this knitted polyester flag offers durable display quality and long-lasting colour vibrancy. The material is suitable for indoor or outdoor display and is designed to retain its colour and structure with regular exposure.
Header with Loops vs. Vertical Sleeve
For a practical setup, the Header with Loops finish allows for straightforward installation using loops and sister clips. For a tidy presentation-style display, the Vertical Sleeve slides onto a compatible pole. Custom sleeve sizing is available on request.
Hemmed Edges
Each flag is finished with hemming along the top, bottom, left and right edges to help resist fraying and extend the life of the flag while providing a clean finish.
Quality craftsmanship and weather-resistant materials help the flag remain vibrant and presentable across changing seasons and varying environments.

Preserve the bold colours and fabric quality of your flag with these maintenance guidelines:
Cleaning
Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to help preserve colour vibrancy. Avoid bleach or harsh cleaning agents that could damage the fabric.
Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, use a cold, gentle cycle. Placing the flag inside a mesh laundry bag can help prevent it from catching or tearing.
Air Drying: Hang or lay the flag flat to air dry. Avoid tumble drying, as heat can distort or weaken the material.
Storage
Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before packing it away. Store it in a cool, dry place to protect it from moisture and mould.
Folding the Vanuatu Flag
Lay the flag flat on a clean, dry surface with the hoist, featuring the black triangle and yellow-edged Y, positioned to your left.
Fold the flag lengthwise in half so the black triangle and emblem remain visible and centred on top.
Gently smooth out any creases or wrinkles to create a neat fold.
Fold it in half again lengthwise, carefully aligning the edges to create a long, narrow strip with the yellow Y-shape still visible.
Starting from the fly end, fold the flag into neat thirds or quarters depending on its size, bringing each section toward the hoist.
Tuck in the final fold to create a compact rectangle, keeping the folds neat without straining the fabric.
Store the folded flag in a dry, protected space, preferably inside a fabric bag or with acid-free tissue to help prevent discolouration or damage.
Handling
Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from rough surfaces and sharp edges that may tear the fabric.
Secure Installation: Fasten the flag securely to help prevent excessive movement that could place strain on the fabric.
Minimise Exposure: Take down the flag during storms, strong winds or overnight to help extend its life.
Repairs
Minor Repairs: For small rips or frays, remove the flag and have it professionally mended.
Replacement: If the flag becomes significantly worn or faded, consider replacing it for a fresh and dignified display.
Flying the Vanuatu Flag
Raising the Flag
Make sure the flag is properly prepared and free from wrinkles or tears before raising it.
Using the Header with Loops: Secure the flag's loops to the flagpole using hooks or sister clips. Ensure they are firmly fastened and the flag is properly aligned so it can hang freely without twisting.
Using the Vertical Sleeve: Slide the flag onto the flagpole through the sleeve, keeping the flag centred and the pole fitting snugly within the sleeve. Fully extend the flag and secure it to prevent unwanted movement.
Raise the flag briskly to the top of the pole and allow it to fly freely without obstruction.
Displaying the Flag
Position the flag with the black triangle facing the hoist side and the yellow-edged Y-shape clearly visible.
Display the flag vertically or horizontally depending on the pole arrangement, keeping it fully extended and clear of the ground.
Avoid allowing the flag to touch the ground to help maintain its condition and dignity.
Flying the Flag at Half-Mast
When lowering the flag to half-mast, first raise it to the top of the pole before bringing it down to the halfway point.
Position the flag so its midpoint is approximately at the halfway point of the flagpole.
At the end of the mourning or commemoration period, return the flag to the top of the pole before lowering it.
Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset
Raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset, displaying it throughout the day in an orderly and respectful manner.
If the flag is flown at night, illuminate it so it remains visible. If lighting is unavailable, lower the flag by sunset.
Weather Conditions
Avoid flying the flag during extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain, strong winds or storms, as these may damage the fabric.
In windy conditions, securely fasten the flag and regularly inspect it for signs of wear and tear.
During inclement weather, lower the flag and store it indoors until conditions improve.
Retirement of the Flag
When the flag becomes worn, faded or damaged, it should be retired respectfully rather than discarded in the rubbish.
The flag may be retired by burning it in a respectful ceremony or by taking it to a local community group or authority that can dispose of it appropriately.
Retire the flag in a manner that honours the dignity and significance of the Vanuatu flag.
By caring for your Vanuatu flag properly, you can help maintain its condition while treating it with appropriate respect.
