1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag, as harsh chemicals or bleach can damage the fabric and fade the colours.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is needed, place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag and select a gentle cycle with cold water to avoid wear and tear.
   • Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it up to air dry. Avoid using a tumble dryer as the heat may shrink or damage the material.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is fully dry before storing to prevent mould and mildew growth. Store it in a cool, dry location, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
3. Folding the Oman Flag:
   • Lay the flag flat on a clean surface, with the side featuring the emblem facing upwards. Smooth out any wrinkles to keep the fabric even.
   • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, bringing the bottom edge (green stripe) up to meet the top edge (white stripe), making sure the emblem remains visible.
   • Repeat the lengthwise fold, aligning the edges precisely to create a tidy and uniform shape.
   • Starting from the end without the emblem, fold the flag into even sections, moving towards the emblem to ensure it remains prominent.
   • Once folded, press the flag gently to remove any creases and ensure it is compact and ready for storage or display.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp or abrasive surfaces to prevent rips and snags.
   • Secure Display: Ensure the flag is securely fastened to its pole and can move freely without risk of damage.
   • Flag Exposure: For prolonged durability, remove the flag during severe weather conditions or at night to minimise exposure to harsh elements.

Flying the Oman Flag:

• Raising the Flag
  • Begin with great respect, ensuring the flag is folded properly before attaching it to the flagpole.
  • Attaching with Header and Loops: Secure the reinforced loops to the halyard hooks and fasten the sister clips firmly to prevent any movement or slipping when raising the flag.
  • Using the Vertical Sleeve: Slide the pole into the sleeve with care, making sure the flag is fully unfurled and the emblem is positioned correctly.
  • Raise the flag swiftly to the top of the pole to symbolise pride and respect for Oman.
• Displaying the Flag
  • When flown horizontally, the emblem should be positioned in the upper left corner when viewed from the front.
  • Ensure the flag does not touch the ground or any other surfaces. If displayed alongside other flags, the Oman flag should hold a position of honour, such as the centre or at the highest point.
• Flying the Flag at Half-Mast
  • To express mourning, raise the flag to the top of the pole first, then lower it to the half-mast position.
  • The flag should be approximately one-third of the pole’s length from the top.
  • When lowering the flag, briefly raise it to the top before taking it down completely.
• Flag Etiquette for Sunrise and Sunset
  • The flag should be hoisted after sunrise and taken down before sunset.
  • If displayed during the night, ensure the flag is illuminated with suitable lighting.
• Weather Precautions
  • Refrain from flying the flag in severe weather conditions, including heavy rain or strong winds, to protect its integrity.
