1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Cleaning: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag, helping to maintain its colour and fabric. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that could damage the material.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag and set the machine to a gentle cycle with cold water to prevent any harm.
   • Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid using a tumble dryer, as high heat may cause the fabric to shrink or degrade.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing it to avoid mould or mildew growth. Keep it in a cool, dry area, away from direct sunlight.
3. Folding the Somalia Flag:
   • Start by placing the flag on a clean, flat surface with the blue field and white star facing up. Smooth out any wrinkles for a tidy fold.
   • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, ensuring the bottom edge aligns with the top, while keeping the white star visible and centred.
   • Fold it again lengthwise, carefully aligning the edges to form a narrow strip.
   • From the hoist side, begin folding the flag into a triangle by bringing the bottom corner up to the top edge, creating the first triangle.
   • Continue folding the flag in triangular sections, working your way towards the fly end, ensuring each fold aligns with the previous one.
   • Once the flag is fully folded, tuck any excess fabric into the final triangle to secure the fold.
   • Store the folded flag in a protective cover or flat area to preserve its shape and avoid creasing.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects or rough surfaces to prevent snags, tears, or damage to the fabric.

• Raising the Flag

  • Attaching with Vertical Sleeve: Slide the flag’s vertical sleeve onto the flagpole, ensuring it fits properly with the pole’s diameter. For larger poles, ensure the sleeve fits snugly or opt for a custom sleeve if needed. Secure the top of the flag to prevent any slippage.
  • Always raise the flag swiftly, ensuring it is fully extended and free from any tangles.
• Displaying the Flag
  • The Somalia flag should always be flown with the blue field and white star facing upwards.
  • If flown alongside other flags, position the Somalia flag at the same height or in the place of honour, typically on the far left when displayed in a group.
  • When displayed on a wall or horizontally, the blue field and white star should be positioned in the top left corner, maintaining the flag’s correct orientation.
• Flying the Flag at Half-Mast
  • The Somalia flag is flown at half-mast to mark national mourning or in remembrance of a significant event.
  • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the flagpole, then lower it to the halfway point.
  • When bringing the flag down from half-mast, raise it back to the top before lowering it completely.
  • The flag should not remain at half-mast for long periods, unless it is in observance of an official national day of mourning.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset
  • Raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset, ensuring the flag is not exposed to the elements overnight unless illuminated.
  • If the flag is to be flown at night, ensure it is properly lit with a dedicated light source to keep it visible and dignified.
  • Never allow the flag to touch the ground during raising, lowering, or display.
• Weather Conditions
  • Avoid flying the Somalia flag in severe weather conditions, such as heavy rain or strong winds, as these can cause damage.
