1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag and prevent fading. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that may harm the fabric or colours.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, use a gentle cycle with cold water and place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent damage.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid using a tumble dryer, as high heat may shrink or weaken the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry location to prevent moisture or mildew damage.
3. Folding the Somalia Flag:
   • Begin by laying the flag on a clean, flat surface with the blue field and white star facing upward. Smooth out any wrinkles for a neat fold.
   • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, bringing the bottom edge up to meet the top edge. Ensure the white star remains visible and centred.
   • Fold it lengthwise again, aligning the edges carefully to create a narrow strip.
   • Starting from the hoist side, make a triangular fold by bringing the bottom corner up to the top edge, forming the first triangle.
   • Continue folding the flag in triangular sections, working toward the fly end. Each fold should align neatly with the previous one.
   • Once the flag is completely folded, tuck any remaining fabric into the final triangle to secure the fold.
   • Store the folded flag in a protective cover or flat space to maintain its shape and prevent creases.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp or abrasive surfaces that may cause snags or tears.

  • Using the Vertical Sleeve: Slide the flag’s vertical sleeve onto the flagpole, ensuring it is aligned correctly with the pole’s diameter. If the pole has a larger diameter, make sure the sleeve fits snugly, or use a custom sleeve if necessary. Secure the flag at the top of the pole to prevent it from sliding down.
  • Always raise the flag briskly, ensuring it is fully unfurled and free of any tangles.
• Displaying the Flag
  • The Somalia flag should be displayed with the blue field and white star facing upright.
  • If flown alongside other flags, ensure the Somalia flag is at the same height as the others or in the position of honour, which is typically the far left when displayed in a group.
  • When displayed on a wall or horizontally, the blue field and white star should always be positioned at the top left corner, ensuring the flag maintains its correct orientation.
• Flying the Flag Half-Mast

  • The flag should be raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset, ensuring the flag is not exposed to the elements overnight unless it is illuminated.

  • Never allow the flag to touch the ground during raising, lowering, or display.
