1. Cleaning
   • Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag while preserving its fabric and colours. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals.
   • Machine Washing: If required, place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag and wash on a delicate cycle using cold water.
   • Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid tumble drying, as excessive heat may weaken or shrink the fabric.
2. Storage
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight to help prevent mould, mildew, and fading.
3. Folding the Suriname Flag
   • Prepare the Flag: Lay the flag flat on a clean surface with the emblem facing upward and smooth out any wrinkles.
   • First Fold: Fold the flag lengthwise, bringing the top green stripe down to meet the bottom green stripe while keeping the red stripe and gold star visible.
   • Second Fold: Fold the flag lengthwise again, carefully aligning the edges.
   • Compact Folding: Fold the flag into even sections or a neat rectangle for storage.
   • Final Fold: Continue folding until compact, ideally leaving the red stripe and gold star visible on the outer layer.
   • Safe Storage: Store the folded flag in a protective cover or clean, dry location away from moisture and dust.
4. Handling

Flying the Suriname Flag

• Raising the Flag
  • Inspect the flag before use to ensure it is clean and free from damage.
  • Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops securely to the halyard using the supplied clips.
  • Vertical Sleeve: Insert the flagpole through the sleeve and position it correctly before securing.
  • Raise the flag smoothly and ensure it flies freely without obstruction.
• Displaying the Flag
  • Display the Suriname flag in a position of prominence whether indoors or outdoors.
  • When wall-mounted, ensure the gold star remains upright and centred.
  • When flown alongside other national flags, display it at an equal height in accordance with accepted flag protocol.
  • When displayed vertically, ensure the design remains correctly orientated.
• Flying at Half-Mast
  • Raise the flag to full height before lowering it to the half-mast position.
