- Cleaning:
- Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent and avoid harsh chemicals or bleach to protect the colours.
- Machine Wash: If machine washing, select a delicate cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh bag to prevent damage.
- Air Drying: Hang the flag to air dry or lay it flat. Do not tumble dry as heat may alter the fabric’s shape and texture.
- Storage:
- Proper Storage: Fully dry the flag before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry area to prevent mould and moisture damage.
- Folding the United Arab Emirates Flag:
- Lay the flag flat with the colours facing up.
- Fold lengthwise from the right side to the left, aligning the edges neatly.
- Fold again lengthwise from left to right, making sure the red section is on the outside to showcase the vibrant colours.
- Begin folding in a triangle shape from the bottom, bringing the bottom edge up diagonally to the hoist side (where the flagpole attaches).
- Continue folding in a triangular pattern, making sure each fold aligns with the previous one.
- Tuck any remaining fabric into the final fold to secure the flag, keeping it compact and neat.
- Handling:
- Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp or rough surfaces that could tear or damage it.

Flying the United Arab Emirates Flag:
- Raising the Flag:
- Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops to the halyard using the sister clips, securing them tightly before hoisting the flag to prevent tangling or slipping.
- Vertical Sleeve: Slide the flag’s side pocket over the pole until fully extended. Secure it to keep it stable in windy conditions.
- Hoist the flag confidently with respect, making sure the red vertical stripe is closest to the flagpole, and the green, white, and black stripes are arranged top to bottom.
- When flown with other flags, the UAE flag should be raised higher.
- Displaying the Flag:
- The UAE flag must be flown proudly in a prominent position and should never touch the ground or be allowed to fall below other flags.
- When displayed against a wall, the red stripe should be on the left side for viewers. If hung vertically, the red band should remain at the top, on the viewer's left.
- It should never be used inappropriately, such as for drapery or purely decorative purposes.
- Flying the Flag at Half-Mast:
- To lower the flag to half-mast, raise it to the top briefly before slowly bringing it to the halfway point on the pole.
- The flag should remain in the half-mast position to signal mourning.
