- Folding the United Arab Emirates Flag
- Lay the flag flat on a clean surface with the colours facing upward.
- Fold it lengthwise from right to left, aligning the edges.
- Fold lengthwise again from left to right, keeping the red section on the outside.
- Begin folding into a triangular shape from the bottom towards the hoist side.
- Continue making even triangular folds until the flag is compact.
- Tuck the remaining fabric neatly into the final fold for secure storage.
- Handling
- Avoid sharp or abrasive surfaces that may snag or tear the fabric.
- Secure the flag properly to minimise excessive movement in strong winds.

- Minor damage should be repaired promptly by a professional tailor.

Flying the United Arab Emirates Flag
- Raising the Flag
- Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops using the supplied sister clips before hoisting.
- Vertical Sleeve: Slide the sleeve over a suitable flagpole and secure the base loop where applicable.
- Raise the flag briskly and respectfully.
- Display the flag with the red vertical band nearest the flagpole and the green, white and black stripes running horizontally from top to bottom.
- When flown with non-national flags, the UAE flag should occupy the position of honour.
- Displaying the Flag
- Ensure the flag never touches the ground.
- When displayed on a wall, the red band should appear on the viewer's left. For vertical display, the red band should remain at the top on the viewer's left.
- Do not use the flag as decorative drapery in a disrespectful manner.
- Flying at Half-Mast
- Raise the flag fully before lowering it to the half-mast position.
- Before removing the flag, raise it to the top once more before lowering it completely.
- Sunrise and Sunset
- Fly the flag from sunrise to sunset unless it is properly illuminated at night.
- Lower the flag slowly and respectfully, ensuring it does not touch the ground.
- Weather Conditions
- Avoid flying the flag during severe weather such as heavy rain, storms or strong winds.
- Flag Retirement
- When the flag is no longer suitable for display, retire it respectfully by disposing of or recycling the material responsibly.
