Care Instructions

To help maintain the appearance and longevity of your Nigeria Flag, follow these recommended care guidelines.

1. Cleaning
   • Gentle Washing: Wash using a mild detergent to help preserve the fabric and colours. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is required, use a gentle cold-water cycle and place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to help prevent snagging.
   • Air Dry: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Do not tumble dry, as excessive heat may weaken or shrink the fabric.
2. Storage
   • Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from moisture to help prevent mould or fabric damage.
3. Folding the Nigeria Flag
   • Lay the flag flat on a clean surface with the green stripes on each side and the white stripe in the centre.
   • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, aligning the edges carefully.
   • Fold it in half lengthwise once more.
   • Continue folding into thirds from one end.
   • Press the folds gently to maintain a neat shape and minimise creasing.
4. Handling
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from rough surfaces or sharp edges that could snag or tear the fabric.
   • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is correctly attached to minimise unnecessary strain during display.
   • Limit Exposure: For extended product life, remove the flag during severe weather or overnight when practical.
5. Repairs
   • Minor Repairs: Small tears or frayed stitching should be professionally repaired where possible.
   • Replacement: If the flag becomes significantly worn, replacing it will help maintain a professional appearance.

Flying the Nigeria Flag

• Raising the Flag
  • Inspect the flag before use to ensure it is clean and free from damage.
  • Header with Loops: Attach using suitable hooks or sister clips, ensuring even support.
  • Vertical Sleeve: Slide the sleeve smoothly onto a compatible flagpole for a secure fit.
  • Raise the flag smoothly and prevent it from touching the ground during installation.
• Displaying the Flag
  • Display the flag with the green stripes on both sides and the white stripe in the centre.
  • Allow the flag to fly freely without obstruction.
  • When displayed with other flags, position it respectfully at the same height or in the place of honour where appropriate.
• Flying at Half-Mast
  • When flown at half-mast, first raise the flag to the top of the pole before lowering it to the halfway position.
  • Before lowering the flag completely, return it briefly to the top of the pole.
• Day and Night Display
  • Ideally, raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset.
  • If displayed overnight, ensure it is properly illuminated.
• Weather Conditions
  • For maximum lifespan, avoid flying the flag during severe weather, including heavy rain, strong winds and storms.
  • Lower the flag if extreme weather is expected to reduce unnecessary wear.
• Flag Retirement
  • When the flag reaches the end of its service life, retire it respectfully using an appropriate local method or ceremonial disposal where applicable.
