1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Wash the flag using a mild detergent to preserve their colours. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the fabric.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. To prevent snagging, place the flag in a mesh laundry bag.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it up to air dry. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat may cause shrinkage or damage to the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing it. Store the flag in a cool, dry place, away from moisture to prevent damage.
3. Folding the Russia Flag:
   • Begin by laying the flag flat on a clean, smooth surface with the flag facing upwards.
   • Fold the flag lengthwise from the hoist side (the side with the grommets or loops) to the fly side, aligning the edges neatly.
   • Once folded lengthwise, fold the flag in half again, ensuring the colours remains visible on the outside.
   • Continue folding the flag into a triangular shape, starting from the hoist side, making crisp, even folds.
   • As you fold, keep the folds tight and uniform, ensuring the flag’s colours remains intact.
   • The final result should be a neatly folded triangle, ready for storage or ceremonial display.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects or rough surfaces that could cause snags or tears.
   • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is securely fastened when displayed, to prevent unnecessary strain on the fabric.
   • Minimise Exposure: Take the flag down during extreme weather or overnight to preserve its condition.
5. Repairs:
   • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, repair the flag or take it to a professional seamstress.
   • Replacement: When the flag shows significant wear, consider replacing it to maintain its appearance during important events.

Flying the Russia Flag:

• Raising the Flag
  • Ensure the flag is properly folded before raising it.
  • Using the Header with Loops: Attach the reinforced loops at the top of the flag to the flagpole using clips or ropes, ensuring the flag is securely fastened and able to fly freely.
  • Using the Vertical Sleeve: Slide the flag’s side pocket (vertical sleeve) over the flagpole, ensuring it fits snugly and allows the flag to hang evenly.
  • Raise the flag briskly, ensuring it does not touch the ground, and allow it to fly freely at the top of the pole.
• Displaying the Flag
  • The Russia flag should be flown with the white stripe on the top followed by the blue and red stripes when displayed horizontally.
  • When displayed with other flags, the Russia flag should be positioned in the place of honour, to the left of the observer or at the top of a flagpole in a group of flags.
  • Never allow the flag to touch the ground or be used as a covering for objects or people.
• Flying the Flag Half-Mast
  • To fly the Russia flag at half-mast, raise it to the top of the pole first, then lower it to the halfway point.
  • Ensure the flag remains in a respectful position and is not left at half-mast unnecessarily.
  • When lowering the flag from half-mast, raise it to the top briefly before bringing it down completely.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset
  • The flag should be raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset.
  • If the flag is flown at night, it should be properly illuminated to maintain respect and visibility.
  • If the flag is flown outdoors overnight, ensure it is in good condition and illuminated if necessary.
• Weather Conditions
  • Avoid flying the flag in extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain, snow, or strong winds, as these can damage the fabric.
  • During harsh weather, it is respectful to lower the flag or bring it inside until conditions improve.
  • If flying the flag during strong winds, ensure the flagpole and attachments are sturdy to avoid potential damage to the flag.
• Retirement of the Flag
  • When the flag becomes tattered, faded, or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired respectfully.
  • The flag can be burned in a private ceremony or cut into pieces and buried in a respectful manner.
  • It is important to retire the flag in a way that honours its symbolism and heritage, ensuring it is disposed of with dignity.
