1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Clean your flag using a mild detergent to preserve its bright colours. Avoid harsh chemicals like bleach that may damage the fabric.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, use a gentle cycle with cold water. Placing the flag in a mesh laundry bag will help protect it from damage.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid tumble drying, as excessive heat can shrink or weaken the material.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: The flag should be completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry location to prevent moisture damage and colour fading.
3. Folding the Turkey Flag:
   • Lay the Flag Flat: Place the Turkey flag on a clean, flat surface with the red field facing upwards.
   • Fold in Half Lengthwise: Bring the top edge down to meet the bottom edge, keeping the white star and crescent visible.
   • Fold in Half Again: Repeat the previous fold, maintaining the flag's rectangular shape.
   • Create a Compact Fold: Continue folding from the fly end (the side opposite the pole) in small, even sections until you reach the hoist end.
   • Maintain Clean Edges: Make sure the folds are neat and smooth, preventing wrinkles or creases.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects or rough surfaces that may cause snags or tears.
   • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is securely fastened when displayed, preventing any unnecessary strain on the fabric.

Flying the Turkey Flag:

• Raising the Flag

  • If your flag has a header with loops, attach it to the pole using snap hooks or clips. For flags with a vertical sleeve, slide the pole through the sleeve, hanging the flag naturally without twisting.
  • Hoist the flag briskly and with respect, reaching the top of the flagpole without hesitation.
  • Confirm that the flag is flying upright, with the red field and the white circle containing the crescent and star clearly visible.
• Displaying the Flag
  • When displayed vertically on a wall, the flag's crescent and star should face the viewer, with the red field maintaining its correct orientation.
  • If hung horizontally, the flag should remain flat and fully extended, avoiding any folds or creases.
  • When flown alongside other flags, the Turkey flag should be given a position of prominence, usually placed at the centre or on the left when viewed from the audience's perspective.
• Flying the Flag Half-Mast
  • During periods of national mourning, the Turkey flag should be flown at half-mast.
  • To lower it to half-mast, raise it to the top of the flagpole first, then slowly lower it to the halfway point.
  • When lowering the flag at the end of the day, it should be returned to the top momentarily before bringing it down completely.
